What does repairing an Excel file mean?

Repairing an Excel file means fixing the internal damage that stops it from opening or makes Excel show warnings such as "we found a problem with some content". The damage usually comes from incomplete downloads, USB drives, power cuts or programs that save the file incorrectly.

The tool fixes the structure of the file while keeping formatting, styles and formulas. If the damage is serious, it rescues the values into a new workbook.

    Advantages

    • Recovers truncated files, damaged ZIPs and broken XML.
    • Rescues data from .xls files with damaged sectors.
    • Fixes CSV files with garbled accents, stray quotes or uneven columns.
    • Detects the real file type even when the extension is wrong.
    • The original is not modified and files are deleted when finished.

How to repair an Excel file

    1. Drag the damaged file onto the tool or click to choose it.
    2. Choose how to repair and the format of the repaired file.
    3. Wait while it is analyzed and repaired.
    4. Read the summary: no damage, repaired or data rescued.
    5. Download the repaired copy.

    Ideas for using it

    • Open a file that Excel says is corrupted.
    • Recover data from an incomplete download or copy.
    • Fix CSV files with strange characters such as "ñ".
    • Rescue sheets from a faulty USB drive.
    • Fix files with the wrong extension.

    Tips for the best result

    • Always work with a copy of the damaged file.
    • If the result is "data rescued", reapply the formatting in Excel.
    • If the file has a password, remove it in Excel first.
    • For CSV, the result is saved as UTF-8 with BOM so Excel shows accents correctly.
